DiscoveryTREK News

Students and visitors of DiscoveryTREK Sunday school have just finished a series on miracles, with a close look at how Jesus took two fish and five loaves of bread to feed over 5000 people. Thank you to our members who were involved in helping make this miracle come to life for the students.

Celebration Sunday took place on Sunday, January 31. The students participated in a fun scavenger hunt which helped to link older kids with younger ones as they reviewed the many lessons they have learned about these past few months. Thank you to all who helped organize the event.

The Lenten series titled "Garden of Gethsemane" will begin Sunday, February 7. Through this series students will learn:

To locate the story in their Bibles, defining the Gospels as the first four books of the New Testament (older students); Younger students will learn that the story is in the New Testament.

That Jesus struggled with knowing what was to come (his death). He used prayer to strengthen himself to accept and follow God’s plan.

To recognize that we too can use prayer to share our concerns with God, but must be willing to accept what God has planned for us.

That it was God’s plan for Jesus to die – to show us how much God loves us, Jesus died so that our sins would be forgiven & we’d be welcomed as a part of God’s family.

This was a point of Jesus' life where he faced great testing. Some might argue that he was facing the greatest battle ever fought by a single person. He is sad. He is afraid. But when Jesus faced his most difficult decisions, he prayed earnestly and persisted in following God’s will for his life. This is a timely lesson in light of the challenging trials currently facing Joyful Harvest.
